Dantata Foods Signs MoU With Bayero University to Revive Dryland Agriculture

Dantata Foods and Allied Products Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre for Dryland Agriculture (CDA), Bayero University Kano, aimed at revitalizing dryland agriculture in Nigeria.

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the company, Tajuddeen Aminu Dantata, disclosed this during the MoU signing ceremony held on Friday in Kano.

Dantata said the partnership would encourage the production of drought-resistant seeds to support farmers facing climatic challenges and harsh weather conditions.

“With this collaboration, we will conduct research on crops and share the findings with farmers, thereby promoting the application of scientific methods in agriculture,” he said.

According to him, about 100,000 farmers are expected to benefit from the research, which is focused on improving the effective utilization of agricultural land and water resources.

He noted that Nigeria’s growing population and increasing demand for housing have made access to arable land more difficult for farmers. Through the partnership, he said, quality assurance would be ensured in the production of agricultural inputs and other products in line with international best standards.

“There are specific parameters that must be met before products can be exported to Europe and other Western markets,” Dantata added, stressing that the company would work tirelessly to fast-track the production of export-quality agricultural products.

Also speaking at the event, Professor Yahuza Bello, Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University Kano, described the MoU as a game changer in the adoption of modern farming techniques in Nigeria.

Bello explained that the Centre for Dryland Agriculture was established to accelerate the sustainable transformation of agricultural technologies to boost crop and livestock production in sub-Saharan Africa.

He added that the centre also focuses on human capacity development, equipping graduates with the skills needed to adapt agricultural practices to changing environmental conditions.

“As part of its objectives, the centre will support graduates to engage in production and research on dryland agriculture, providing relevant solutions to regional agricultural and development challenges,” he said.
